A familiar face has been noticeably missing from one of Fox News’ signature programs this week, leaving viewers wondering what happened and when he might return.
The host has now broken his silence about the unexpected absence, revealing that a medical problem required another surgical procedure and temporarily forced him away from television.
“Fox & Friends” co-host Lawrence Jones revealed Thursday that he underwent surgery after suffering another detached retina, months after requiring an operation for the same condition.
“Regrettably, I’ve sustained another retina detachment, which is common after the initial tear,” Jones wrote in a statement posted to X.
“Yesterday, I underwent surgery again with the best care team,” he added.
Jones thanked his Fox News colleagues, network management, and viewers who have supported him while he deals with the latest health setback.
“I’m optimistic that I’ll be back soon!” Jones said.
The latest surgery comes only months after Jones underwent a procedure in January to repair a detached retina in his right eye.
Jones has previously explained that his eye problems originated with an old sports injury he suffered during childhood.
The Fox News personality began experiencing problems with his vision toward the end of 2025 but initially did not believe the symptoms were serious enough to require immediate medical attention.
That changed after Jones eventually decided to have the problem examined by a specialist in December.
Doctors quickly determined that the situation was considerably more serious than Jones initially believed, diagnosing him with a detached retina that required prompt surgical treatment.
Jones told People earlier this year that within hours of seeing the specialist, he learned that surgery would be necessary as soon as possible.
“And I’m glad I did because it ended up being something more serious,” Jones said in February.
Jones underwent the initial operation in January and later returned to “Fox & Friends” while he was still visibly recovering from the procedure.
Rather than remain off television until the recovery process was entirely complete, Jones said he wanted the audience to see what he was going through.
That decision allowed longtime viewers to follow his recovery as he resumed his duties alongside his fellow “Fox & Friends” personalities.
The latest retinal detachment, however, has once again temporarily removed Jones from the program.
Jones characterized the recurrence as something that can happen following an initial retinal tear and indicated that he is receiving high-quality medical care.
His statement did not provide additional details about the procedure or specify how long doctors expect his recovery to take.
He also did not announce an exact date for his return to the “Fox & Friends” curvy couch.
But his message made clear that he expects the absence to be temporary.
Jones has become one of Fox News’ most recognizable personalities since joining the network and has developed a particularly prominent role on its morning programming.
He joined “Fox & Friends” as a permanent co-host in 2023, becoming the youngest Black co-host in cable news history at the time.
His unexpected disappearance from the program therefore attracted attention from regular viewers who had become accustomed to seeing him on the show.
The explanation also arrives amid heightened viewer interest in the whereabouts of prominent Fox personalities whenever they suddenly disappear from their regular programs.
In Jones’ case, there is no indication of a network shakeup or professional dispute behind the absence.
Instead, the explanation is a recurrence of the same potentially serious eye condition that required surgery earlier this year.
Jones’ expressed relief that he eventually sought medical attention after initially believing his vision problems might not require a doctor’s examination, Mediatite reported.
The first time, that decision led doctors to discover the detached retina and quickly arrange surgery.
Now, after another detachment, Jones has once again undergone an operation and begun the recovery process.
“I’m optimistic that I’ll be back soon!” he said.
